The use for hobby shops is evolving, and with that, their popularity is increasing. So, how are people using these structures, and what’s the process of building one? One thing’s for sure: each hobby building is different.

Size

Your hobby shop should be large enough to comfortably suit your purposes. Pro-Line gets requests for all shapes and sizes of hobby shops, ranging from 30’ x 40’ to 60’ x 120’ with the most common sizes being between 40’ x 60’ and 40’ x 90’. However, the sky is the limit. Pro-Line can create any size hobby building you desire. One thing we never see is a customer who thinks their building is “too big.” In fact, by the end of the project people almost always say they don’t feel their hobby shop is big enough. Our main recommendation to someone considering building a hobby shop is to think about your needs now as well as what they might be 20 years down the road. In our experience, no hobby shop you build is ever going to feel oversized.

Uses

Hobby shops can truly be used for anything. We see a lot of hobby shops that are primarily used for storage and workshop areas. Many people build hobby shops to house a boat, camper, or trailer. Most hobby shops we see serve as multipurpose buildings and have a partition wall to separate different areas. While these are the most common uses, hobby shops have also moved into serving as livable space—typically man caves. People reserve portions of their hobby shops to devote to useable livings space and incorporate features such as a bathroom, bedroom, entertainment area, bar, and more.

Design

Close attention to the design stage of hobby shops is key to achieving the building you want. During the design phase, we’ll discuss items like the height of the building and door heights, but we’ll also talk about things like heating and cooling; if your hobby shop is going to be used as more of a livable space, you will need to think about this. If you’re simply using it for storage, however, heating and cooling probably won’t be a good use of your money.

Features

Since hobby shops can be used for many things, the features incorporated into these buildings are anything but fixed. While many details change, most of our hobby shop buildings have these key features:

  • Post frame structure
  • Steel exterior
  • Overhead door

Our team finishes the building to the customer’s specifications. We can take the project from site preparation to the last coat of paint, or we can simply build the shell, and you can finish it on your own. The duration of building a hobby shop varies from project to project. It all depends on the building’s size and how much of the interior finish our team does.

Hobby shops are a trendy way to add living space that also doubles as ample storage and work space. If you want to learn more about hobby shops and how Pro-Line can help you build yours, connect with our team today.
