When it comes to municipal buildings, Pro-Line has few limitations. Don’t be afraid to ask us if we can include certain uncommon features or customize your building to suit your unique needs; our experience, skills, creative mindset, and quality building materials enable us to creatively meet each our customers’ specific wants and needs.

We’ve had the pleasure of working on the building types below for various communities throughout the Midwest. Read on to learn what factors need to be carefully considered when constructing each type. When hiring a builder for your municipal structures, make sure to partner with one who has experience constructing the type of building you need so they understand how to meet all of its requirements.

Police Stations

When building a new police station, location is one of the most important factors to consider. Do you have an existing site for the new structure, or are you looking to relocate it? In some cases, it may be best located downtown in the center of everything, while in others, a location in a more open, less populated area may better serve the community. Consider the area directly surrounding the proposed location and whether it offers space to expand in the future. Avoid getting stuck in a space that’s too small to accommodate all of the police department’s needs a few years down the road by making sure the property allows for additions and renovations as needed.

Important Police Station Design Considerations

  • Strategic and convenient location
  • Number of stories
  • Look and feel (fierce or friendly?)
  • Space for technology and workforce expansion

Fire Stations

Fire stations are multi-purpose structures that must accommodate a large variety of functions: housing, classes and training sessions, fitness areas, administrative offices, vehicle and equipment storage and maintenance, and safe places to store hazardous materials. Fire stations that are designed to respond to a specific type of fire must be specially built and equipped appropriately located for quick response to emergencies. An aircraft rescue firefighting station, for example, must be located on airport property near the runway.

When designing a fire station, we understand the importance of health and safety as well as comfortable living conditions for the firefighters who spend a great deal of time there. Consider how much natural light you want throughout the building and what colors and textures will help create the right kind of environment.

Important Fire Station Design Considerations

  • Strategic and convenient location
  • Type of emergencies the facility responds to
  • Residential areas (for sleeping, living, eating, showering, laundering, etc.)
  • Noise control
  • Training and administrative spaces
  • Apparatus bay and industrial areas for vehicle and equipment cleaning and maintenance
  • Room to expand

City Office Buildings

Office buildings can vary greatly, ranging from skyscrapers in the heart of downtown to small, humble single-story office spaces in the suburbs. The right office space for your business will help you meet your goals. Consider what type of layout would work best for your organization to accommodate the needs of everyone on the team—both now and in the future. Design the interior carefully to give staff a comfortable and motivational environment to work in every day as well as an inviting lobby or common area for guests and visitors.

Important City Office Design Considerations

  • Lobby area
  • Conference rooms
  • Private offices
  • Break rooms or cafeteria
  • Parking space
  • Storage
  • Computers and IT space
  • Technology and equipment
  • Flexibility
  • Room to grow
